Bumble Bees and Garden Peas

Posted in Autumn, Family, Food, Weekends by bumblebeesandgardenpeas on November 26, 2012

We spent a wonderful day in London yesterday, with my brother and his lovely girlfriend, Victoria. It was Ivy’s first trip to London. This is a big deal for me as I didn’t go to London until I was about thirteen! I think she liked it. We…

walked around my bro’s neighbourhood, South Kensington, weaving through the most beautiful residential streets. Pristine window boxes full of cyclamen were plentiful.

‘brunched’ at Le Pain Quotidien. We ate perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs with gorgeous bread and drank delicious coffee from bowls. Ivy made friends with some lovely American girls – very unusual for Ivy, who has never been the most forthcoming little person. I think she saw their iPhones on the table and couldn’t help herself.

browsed a little in Whole Foods. It was my first time there and I loved it. I bought a La Fermiere yoghurt because I couldn’t resist the pot it came in, and a Whole Foods tote bag because I’m a sucker for cloth bags.

walked some more in Kensington Gardens / Hyde Park. Spotted cute dogs, birds, squirrels and celebs (Holly Valance walked past us, smiled and called Ivy beautiful – sorry to go on about it those of you who follow me on FB, but it was a major highlight! I’ve always loved her).

joined the masses in Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park, where the boys threatened to go on the zip wire. Fortunately we all came away safe and sound, a little lighter for the 10 pence pieces we’d left behind in the arcade (you have to go on those coin machines that (sometimes) push coins out), although the bratwurst we ate (and instantly regretted) probably remedied that.

walked back to the car via the Hummingbird Bakery, where I was treated to a carrot cupcake.

Thanks Matt and Vicks for the cupcake and for showing us a delightful day in your city.

I have a confession that I also have a Wholefoods bag and some of those empty yoghurt pots! If only all yoghurt came in nice pots like that. Sounds like a fun day and I love Ivy’s outfit!
